Breaking Bad by azmadazme Breaking Bad by azmadazme
Made with deviantART muro
After seeing another DA member paint this same image with this program, I decided to give it a shot myself, loosely based on her process. I did this mainly as a test of this Muro program and thought I would challenge myself to see if I could come up with similar results. I based this on a photo found on Google and intentionally mimicked the cropping mainly to compare the process and final results just for fun and curiosity. Keep in mind, I was not copying the other artist ( nor did I reference her work during the process) , but merely used the same or similar reference and placement. Ultimately the source of reference is obviously not my own.

Your version is much more detailed and has more depth. I enjoyed watching your process. The only thing that bothers me is his glasses. I feel that you did not place as much effort into his glasses as you did the rest so they sort of look a bit unfinished. Just my two cents, I still love it and think it's awesome. I also realize this is done with muro tools which must have been a b**ch to work with! Is this done with only the basic tools in muro or have you purchased some of the brushes?

Thanks for the comments. yeah I agree the glasses were a bit lacking I suppose, but then again the whole image is somewhat loose so i am not overly dissatisfied with them I can always go back to it if i wanted also - but probably wont). i did however have some trouble with the thin detail lines - sometimes accuracy is a problem with using a wacom tablet, as if the tablet is slightly skewed, the placement is wrong, and delicate curves are especially tricky. Also i don't like the fact that i cannot use the pressure sensitive features of the tablet. As far as the Muro tools, i only used the basic stuff. i did not purchase anything. Mostly I used the basic brush. it was a matter of finding the right transparencies, softness, and brush size.. and continuously using the color picker. I did mess with the smear brush on the glasses though, to help kind of reshape them, and i used the spotted brush for some of the razor stubble texture.

This was probably the first full portrait i have ever did digitally. I have used used PS for years and years, but generally for various other illustration. For some reason though, doing this portrait has kind of inspired me to do some more stuff, and probably with Muro for now. I kind of like the fact that it is limited.

I know exactly what you mean when you said that you like the fact that it is limited. I too had found a place online that offered really crappy tools but I loved the challenge of making something beautiful with such basic tools.

I hope to see more of your work soon.
